Back to school, love it or hate it, it’s coming…and soon! Here at Wightman & Parrish we understand as a school, a deep clean may be top of your list for the autumn term. That’s why we’ve highlighted 4 things you should consider before the term begins.
1. Review your product portfolio
Whilst there are traditional products you know, and most likely trust, there are often much more cost effective and high quality products available. Make sure you review your product portfolio to ensure you have the right products for your requirements.
For example, the Scott Roll Hand Towel, coupled with one of our compatible dispensers, which controls how much tissue you take, helps to cut costs and reduce waste. There are several factors as to why it is a cost saving product. The user can use the entire surface of a roll towel for drying, meaning fewer towels are used. Roll towels also ensure no more than necessary is taken to dry, whereas with folded towels, users tend to take handfuls of towels, meaning more product is used and wasted. In one study, switching from a multi-fold towel to a roll towel provided substantial savings, with a 55% decrease in product consumption, and a 45% decrease in packaging waste.
2. Traditional vs. flat mops
Something else to consider is your traditional mop versus a flat mop. Flat mops tend to be much more versatile and are now the go-to mop for regular cleaning. They can get into corners easily, less labour intensive and are fairly affordable.
The Vileda Express Interior mop is a flat mop, which can be used dry as a dust mop, or wet to clean floors, as it is microfibre, and can clean right up to the edge without making the walls dirty. The Vileda Express Interior is lightweight and portable, and also saves on the time needed to clean. It is also seen as a ‘green’ product, as it limits the amount of chemicals and water needed to clean, also reducing cost as less chemicals need to be purchased.

3. Keeping your hands clean
It might seem obvious, but hand soap is a must. A recent survey showed that children who washed their hands with soap and water were 53% less likely to become ill with illnesses such as the norovirus.
Some of our products, such as the ‘Mr Soapy Soap’ dispenser, actively promote for children to wash their hands. This dispenser can be used with several different Deb soaps, such as the Refresh Clear Foam Hand Wash, which is perfume and dye-free, making it perfect for children’s sensitive skin. It can also be used on wet or dry hands, allowing for quick and easy hand washing.
4. Stock up on first aid
One thing often forgotten about is having a fully stocked first aid room, , as The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 requires schools have ‘appropriate equipment and facilities’.
Wightman & Parrish offer different first aid products, such as bandages, plasters, eyewash and first aid kits.
